The trailer for the film of the novel 'Darkmatters' has been completed and will be hitting the web shortly...

If you're looking for a taste of the book itself (currently under publishing negotiation) try this exclusive exert from the Prologue:

Prologue – death from the past

The image ‘echoes’ from deep space were being streamed in real time across the systems of the L2 Galactic Infestations Research and Early Warning Group (GIREWG). What was being recorded were basically starlight ‘projections’, those whose light had once ‘bounced’ off earth and then rebounded again from nearer planets, dust fields or gas clusters. Once in possession of these echoed waves of light - the mammoth analytical A.I. brains were able to fragment, magnify and display such reflections so that actual events on our little planet from various times past could be watched – in much the same way that satellite footage had been viewed for several hundred years.

In the main viewing hall an image of somewhere on earth, from some time ago stabilises on the high definition banks of multi-angle plasma screens, it shows a mass of armoured warriors marching through sandy desert terrain. It is night, maybe just before dawn and a harsh sandstorm appears to be obscuring much of the detail but even from this high overhead vantage point it is obvious that this army is prepared for battle. From within the dust cloud savagely fashioned swords glint in the last of the moonlight, the armour is black and barbarically impressively – a lot to do with the twisted sharp edges of dark metal. The full extent of the army is difficult to gage but it must run into tens of thousands, there are cavalry forming a wide column of mounted riders running along one edge of a steep sided valley. The main bulk is made up of foot soldiers, some with banners that have various emblems on them – the feed computer is cross-referencing the ancient symbols and languages against the inter-global directory of knowledge and displaying footnotes about the images presented which includes translations of some of banners, one apparently reads ‘death bringers’.

“Can we pan out or track ahead of them? I am keen to see what force this army is moving to meet…” L2’s Ministry for Information is the best funded on the planet and it should come as little surprise that it is they who have set up the technology to view our human distant past from the aging reflection of light bounced from the stars themselves. It appears that Grand Information Controller Manu Doyyle has taken a keen interest in the footage coming in through the GIREWG. He is a man of average height and little hair but a hugely compelling presence. His Social Rating™ is blinking “****excited by technology” and it is mirrored on his face – a schoolboy in a toyshop staring at the latest plaything which his parents have just promised him for Christmas…

“This stuff is fantastic, maybe we should get some GOV tactical military advisers to have a look at this?” he drools.
“Do we have a confirmed date for this feed?”

“Negative on both of those Sir I’m afraid, this is fresh footage that has not been analysed or even archived yet, I just thought you’d like to see the quality of this new feed – it really is far superior to anything we’ve managed to track to date.”

Doyyle and Senior Research Technician M’diitch are standing in front of the main plasma screen which stands 50 meters in height and some 80 across, it dwarves the watchers and awes those not accustomed to its monstrous dimensions. The image is sectioned into the main feed in a large central window with subsidiary information windows around the edges. This Tech Lab is a converted ancient Cathedral – moved brick by brick from the abandoned Underworld beneath L2 and rebuilt into the foot of a new GOV research laboratory. The massive pillars now support billions of global dollars worth of the latest tech – this place may no longer be a shrine of worship to a ‘God’, but for the many who have come to bow before technology as their divinity it is the antechamber to heaven itself.

“How old is this footage?” asks Doyyle, staring transfixed at the thousands of long dead warriors up on the screen. He has a reputation for his energetic enthusiasm for progress and movement on anything that L2 leads the world in and this new generation of Starlight Historical Records (SHR) are just one of his current pet projects.

“Sir, this feed is from hundreds of years BC – the location is being predicted to be the Middle East, possibly near to the ancient land of Canaan.”

On screen the camera has tracked ahead of the massive army now and in what must be the first light of dawn there is a temporary looking encampment clearly in the path of the military advance. A zoom in on the people in the camp show them to be collecting some kind of foodstuff from the sand around there tents. Suddenly what must be warning shout goes out (SHR’s don’t come with soundtracks) and a scout can be see running into the camp, within minutes there is much activity, soldiers suiting up for battle, women and children gathering their possessions and breaking camp as fast as they can. A small group leaves the camp and head towards a large dune that is in the path of the oncoming army, which are not yet visible to the main body of the camp but cannot be more than a few miles away now. It appears to be two elderly men with six guards, who between them are carrying a huge chest that has poles running along its length and some kind of ornate figures carved onto it. In the first rays of sunlight it reflects as if made of gold or some other burnished metal.

Doyyle is transfixed, “K, please clear my immediate diary, I am in an important meeting and it looks like running on – no calls at all, thank you,” he turns to a quizzical looking M’diitch, “I want to see what happens when the army arrives!” he grins. “Do you suppose that those guys are going to try and plead terms of surrender, or buy off the army?”

M’diitch brings up a window showing the advancing wave of black suited soldiers, and shakes his head. “I don’t think they look like they could be talked to, let alone bargained with… I think we’re about to witness an absolute massacre.”

So the rules if you too want to be sucked into the "if you don't participate, you will never be rich" game
1. Leave me a comment saying 'interview me please'
2. I will respond by asking you five questions (not the same questions you see here)
3. You will update your blog/site with the answers to the questions
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

And without further ado - here were my 5...

Blogging question thing…

In the spirit of participation – here are my answers to the following questions (as supplied by the world renowned Rachel W):

1. If the world was inside out and you had to live on the inside, given that all books are made of oxo cubes and gravity had been outlawed years ago, which chocolate bar would you buy at lunch time
and why?

I always choose MARS – they are the perfect combination of sugar overload, chocolate endorphin rush and energy boost… I’d buy Mars bars even in a zero gravity inside / outside oxo cube library world and I’d still love em… Who can deny the guilty pleasure of a Mars, Coke and Crisps snack attack?
And I’m convinced that even now angels are happily munching on bars of chocolate coated glucose fluff topped with toffee…

2. Name your ideal cast for a film of the life of Cllr Desline Stewart, one-time mayor of Luton?

This is an interesting one – obviously Halle Berry is the immediate choice for the lead because she is practically identical in looks... So that’s a given. She would be supported by a battalion of Storm Troopers loaned out from the Emperor himself to play the rest of the Labour Party – efficient and no nonsense, and damn they look good smart in those white helmets... The populace of Luton would be played by a collection of super models with cameos by Tom Cruise (as the cheerful drunk bloke humming to himself on the steps of the Hat Factory) and of course Jennifer Garner as the Council Tea Lady who undertakes secret world saving missions when serving warm wet sustenance to the world’s best council – LBC!!

3. Should I hem my curtains above or below the windowsill?

Ah, trick question!! Only deviant child eating hillbillies hem their curtains below the windowsill (because it condemns the windowsill to a life of repression behind the veil)… And although I don’t know you very well Rach, I’m prepared to give you the benefit of the doubt that you wouldn’t eat my kids should you ever meet them… Which leads nicely to Q4…

4. Will you let your sons a) ride motorbikes, b) bungee jump, c) get their entire bodies tattooed, d) run the London Marathon backwards dressed as caterpillars and e) watch Bambi?

a)	Motorbikes are cool, and boys will be boys so I won’t stand in their way should they want to go Easy Rider style.

b)	They can bungee jump by all means, just not from a pikey travelling fair temporary rig… If you’re gonna do it try one of the wonders of the world like the Grand Canyon, Hanging Gardens of Babylon or Hitchin Market Square…

c)	Tattooing your entire body is one I might advice against , only in that it must be unimaginably painful when the artist gets to your boy bits… And I’m not convinced that all body tattoos will still look good in later life, but having said that if someone like Sony offer to sponsor the tattoo and perhaps include tasteful Playstation branding (which will obviously lead to a lifetime of payments from the big S corp – it might be financially shrewd!?).

d)	Funny you should ask but I have several friends who have been emotionally damaged by running the London Marathon backwards dressed as caterpillars and they are now living in a YMCA somewhere in deepest Walthamstow… It’s not funny actually, it’s dangerous and the second one I’d advise against – if you want to run the London Marathon then the least you can do is wear Star Wars costumes !!

e)	Watch Bambi – they already have, several times… Great film although I fear they learnt more from Back to the Future, which we watched at the weekend (I didn’t remember there being language like “you bastard”, “holy shit” and “oh son of a bitch!” in it but there is…) Still great film!!

5. What is the strangest question you have ever been asked in a job interview and what was your answer?

Strangest question I can remember was: “A tragic event on ‘National Bring Your Pet To The office Day’ lead to a fire in the office, you are the last person out but you spot in one corner the company’s CEO trapped under a beam unconscious and in the other corner all the cute pets still in their travel cages… With time to only save the CEO or the pets but not both which do you choose?”
I’ll let you guess what my answer was but let’s just say that barbequed dog tastes a lot better than barbequed CEO…

So, there you go... /Matt stands back and waits for possible question requests in comment section...

Unrelated photo? Like I care...

Anyway I was just starting to sort my stuff out in preparation for the big writing project which kicks off next week (when I leave Freedman after 1.5 years to finish DARKMATTERS)...

I was thinking about the amount of emails you send during your time in a place and have compiled the top 10 'not work related' email list for the last 18 months (this list does not include the 71 weekly film review emails sent to all the people listed below and about 80 others):

MATT's TOP 10
NOT WORK RELATED EMAIL's SENT TO LIST

1. Gail Adcock (wife) with 182 emails

2. John Richardson (old friend) with 92 emails

3. Dave Golding (old friend) with 55 emails

4. Mike Brooks (old friend) with 53 emails

5. Steven Worsley (friend / boyfriend of babysitter) with 40 emails

6. Paul Upson (ex work colleague and Chelsea fan) with 39 emails

7. Alan Masters (friend) with 38 emails

8. Bryan Doyle (friend / pastor) with 37 emails

9. Simon Middleditch (friend) with 36 emails

10. Chris Curtis (friend) with 34 emails

Others worthy of note: Lee Davies, Adrian Summerson, Clare J, Jo C, Catherine M, Adrian Nolloth, Jason Absalom and Annalisa H...

On average the total works out to just over 2 'not work related' emails every working day - sociable but not excessive?

He sees this:
It is the inside of his mind...

He remembers a fragment from a book he read:

"The interiors of black holes are deeply mysterious places, forever beyond our view, where the accepted laws of physics provide no guide. This has not, however, discouraged physicists from speculating about what goes on there."

He drinks some more tea and collapses onto his bloody keyboard.

A phrase circles in his head: 'black holes are deeply mysterious places'
'black holes are deeply mysterious places''black holes are deeply mysterious places'

When he comes to Dead M has a massive boner, his head is stuck to the computer keyboard where the blood has dried.

ON the screen is this:

Man - finally got round to catching the first season of The OC last night. The first couple of episodes (directed by Doug 'Mr & Mrs Smith' Liman) are great and I'm hooked!!

Damn there are just too many cool shows to watch on DVD these days - I can remember when if you missed a show it was gone for good. Now I have a growing back catalogue of shows to watch...

Great to have just met Katie Holmes but next up is a foxy young lady that I have admired from afar ever since her 'starring role' in Home and Away back in the '90s.

Her film Wedding Crashers could be fun - Vince Vaughn is always class and Owen Wilson can be good, plus it has Rachel 'Mean Girls' McAdams in it...

Could be a great press conference!!

Yes I have been battling using my Darkmatters blog over at: Blogexplosion.com which is the best blog traffic club on the web!!

It's exciting, addictive and strangely random - I mean where else can you find blogs dedicated to horses going up against business diaries? Or religious types fighting it out with 'hot chick' blogs...

You don't have to fight either (if you're too wussy) or just want to vote then you can - you decide the winner by checking each blog and casting a vote - you even get credits just for voting...

If you have a blog - then I strongly recommend you give it a try!!

That link again: Blogexplosion.com

“He couldn’t help himself” is what he would say to try and explain his actions later and for once it was the truth – he literally couldn’t look away from the vision of female perfection that was standing in front of him – wrapped in an ultra tight one piece swimsuit – cut to reveal the cutest stomach he’d ever seen. Her body was divine – curvy yet tight with absolutely no unnecessary fat, her breasts weren’t large but they were perky as hell and the cut of the swimsuit made her button nipples standout in virtual 3D… When she turned around he was faced with the sexiest arse he’d ever seen – it perfectly finished off her unbelievably shapely legs and the way her gently dimpled butt cheeks curved into the small of her back was a design miracle of erotic overload.
She glanced over at him and smiled, he could feel himself already hard and hoped it wasn’t obvious through his business suit.

“So, are you going take me to bed or what?” she enquired with a cheeky smile and an arched eyebrow. It was 11.15am; he was in the lobby bar of the L2 Hilton, his meeting was scheduled to start at 11.30am and he was awaiting the Vice President for Global Product Launch about to try and negotiate the deal of his life. It would be career suicide to miss this meeting, his boss would be furious to a degree that he couldn’t even contemplate, he had to think straight, he had to say “no”.
“Absolutely” he said and took her offered hand. He took her up to his VIP suite and that’s when the fun really started…

It's probably not healthy, and it is certainly worrying but I crave the smooth, sweet Coke... Mmmmmm, must go and grab one now!!

Celebrity Love Island has been branded an "immoral" programme which promotes casual sex and is not worthy of public broadcast funding, viewers' according to watchdog Mediawatch.

So I was thinking of a potentially more 'spiritually positive' version... Which could still feature celebs in their underware if they thought it might help the ratings.

Celebrity Prayer Island...In this show, celebs are taken to isolated monasteries and have two weeks to 'find God'. Cameras follow their every move as they study scripture, fast, meditate and of course pray...

The prize? A place in heaven!!

Every day I now walk past The WEEE Man (a seven metre high human- ish) figure made out of three tonnes of WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment). It's a startling illustration of the amount of electrical waste that one UK resident consumes and discards in a lifetime. I'm pretty sure that I've already gotten through more WEEE than that... Maybe in 30 or so years time they will try to build another WEEE Man and by then it will tower over the city like some machine Godzilla!!?

The WEEE Man is made up of:

12 washing machines
10 fridges
Eight cookers
Six microwaves
Three tumble-driers
Three dishwashers
Two freezers
Five heaters
19 electric fans
95 small household appliances – including vacuum cleaners, irons and toasters
35 pieces of IT equipment - including computers and mobile phones
55 pieces of consumer equipment – including TVs, videos and camcorders
Its teeth, for example, have been made from computer mice, the spine is formed from an old washing machine and the neck is composed of vacuum cleaner tubes.

The sculpture is currently on view at Potter's Fields, next to City Hall on the South Bank of the Thames... and it looks even cooler at night because it lights up!! See below:

I've been invited to so meet George Lucas himself at a London press conference...

Since last August when I got to do my first film related interview (Will Smith) it's been great. On average I meet about one film star a month - so far it's been Denzel Washington, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jim Carrey, Dustin Hoffman, Samuel L. Jackson, John Travolta and Ricky Gervais... but GEORGE LUCAS whoa that's got me excited.

Apparently Haden will there too but the thought of talking with Lucas, perhaps I could slip him a synopsis of Darkmatters? Hey, I can dream...

Star Wars mania is rife in our house… Both my boys now want to be Jedi when they grow up which is a positive role model at least!?

I feel immensely privileged at the moment – I have two very cool sons who I love more than it is possible to put into words, and, I got to see an advance press screening of Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith at the weekend!!

My review is posted over on the original Darkmatters blog and it is attracting plenty of attention (about a hit a minute!) after being listed on TheForce.Net here is the link:

What can I say except I’m already itching to see it again…

Just when you thought it was safe... DARKMATTERS strikes back...

I kind of think I might have missed some of the point of Blogging with my original Blog Darkmatters - The Mind Of Matt

Sure it has had more than 10,000 hits since it started back in December '04 but most of that has been because it is choc full of film reviews, film star interviews and cool photos that I post... And it has made me new friends across the planet but somehow when I get the urge to post more diary kind of entries it just looks 'wrong' or 'out of place'.

So, this sister blog to DARKMATTERS is one that I'm going to use to record more personal posts - I guess more in the original spirit of blogging...

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED...

 Comments
